A mortician, name withheld, has been arrested in Agwabi community, Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State, after he was allegedly caught using a severed human leg from a corpse as a walking stick in public.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, sparked outrage among residents when the suspect openly carried the limb and took it to a nearby shop while attempting to buy items. Community youths apprehended him and handed him over to security operatives.
When questioned, the mortician claimed he did it deliberately to draw attention to the lack of support for handling over 18 unclaimed bodies, believed to be those of suspected criminals, deposited in his mortuary. He has been taken to Buruku Police Station for investigation.
