On November 25, 1970, renowned Japanese novelist Yukio Mishima, along with members of his private militia Tatenokai, seized the Japan Self-Defense Forces headquarters in Ichigaya, Tokyo. After taking the commander hostage and delivering a speech urging constitutional revision and a Self-Defense Forces uprising, Mishima committed a gruesome ritual seppuku inside the commander’s office when his demands were rejected.
Graphic images of Mishima’s corpse from the scene continue to circulate and spark discussion on overseas shock websites.
