A fatal workplace accident occurred in Cijin, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, when a truck driver was tragically crushed to death near a container yard. The victim, identified only by his surname Liu, worked for an outsourcing contractor and was responsible for transporting soil and rocks.
According to reports, Liu noticed a pothole at the site and stepped out of his truck to help fill it. However, he may have forgotten to apply the handbrake. The heavy vehicle began rolling backward just as Liu bent down behind it, possibly to check or pick something up. Unaware of the danger, he was fatally struck and crushed.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Liu showed no signs of breathing or pulse. Despite immediate CPR and being rushed to the hospital, his severe injuries proved fatal. Witnesses stated Liu was always the assigned driver of the truck, and they were baffled as to why he positioned himself behind it, especially since nothing required inspection in that area.
